Hello and welcome...
I am Joanne Gilhooly and I am a psychotherapist and
counsellor based in Dublin city centre, Dublin 1.
If you have found your way here you may be considering some
counselling and psychotherapy for yourself or researching what is available for
someone you care about. Please feel free to look around the website to get a
better sense of how I work and what you can expect in counselling
If you have tried to make changes by yourself, but keep
getting stuck, counselling and psychotherapy may help you to clarify what is getting in your way or keeping you from living your life to the full.
Counselling and psychotherapy is a process that can help you
- Deepen your understanding of yourself
- Develop greater self-awareness
- Develop resilience
- Live with greater ease
- Unpick old negative patterns and behaviours
- Empower you to make new and more creative choices
Everybody gets stuck at some point in their lives. Contrary
to what we might tell ourselves, reaching out for help with this is a
sign of courage and strength. It suggests a willingness to be aware
of our vulnerability, and to take responsibility for ourselves when it is too
much to go it alone. So, if you have made it as far as considering seeking some help with your difficulties, you have already begun to
demonstrate your emotional strength.
In terms of my background and training, I am a fully
accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with the IACP, and I work within a
humanistic and integrative frame work.
To learn more about my approach please click here,
and for more about my professional qualifications and background please click here.
Briefly, I work in an egalitarian way as far as
possible, and I respect your ability to determine what is right for you. My
approach is well suited to people who want to explore their issues at a deep level
and who are prepared to reflect on how they are currently living and relating
to themselves and to others.
The counselling and psychotherapy service I
provide is strictly confidential, with certain legal and ethical limitations. Confidentiality is discussed and explained
in more detail during our first session.
