Counselling for Sex and Sexuality Issues…

Talking about sex can feel taboo, and yet we are all sexual beings. It is not unusual for a sense of shame or self-consciousness to pervade attempted conversations about sex, which may shut down the possibility of being seen and heard in this core aspect of your life. A number of factors can affect our ability to talk freely about sexuality, including the level of openness and support we received around sexual issues while growing up, experiences of sexual abuse or harassment, and cultural shame or judgment, among others.

The counselling room is a place in which you can talk about sexuality freely, without judgment, and where you can take the opportunity to explore your sexuality or sexual identity without being labelled or categorised. Possible issues could include: feelings of shame or embarrassment around sex, confusion around sexual identity or orientation, finding a clear sense of your own sexual boundaries, body image/body shame, experiences of abuse or harassment, moving from negative experiences toward more fulfilling and enjoyable ones.
